ABOUT
I am DEFCONZERO, AKA Rachael Wojdyla
(she/they).

I am an illustrator, designer, and fine artist based out of Kansas City, MO who explores many mediums and methods to image-making like printmaking, photography, painting, collage, and such. I landed on mostly digital creation, however I enjoy the textures and textile appeal of the traditional media and try to reconnect the two. Full representation is not my goal. Messy and unrefined in look, but well thought out conceptually.

I am interested in visualizing or symbolizing the imperceptible: the emotional, mental, psychological, spiritual, supernatural, metaphysical, and overall the strange and alternative. Sometimes I create a seemingly straight-forward image, but I am also influencing it with these sensibilities. By creating these images that are visually striking, I am encouraging the viewer to consider the pieces not just as they look, but as they feel: in body, mind, and experience. I take this interest from the works of Francis Bacon, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Francisco Goya, Ralph Steadman, Lewis Rossignol, KAZLAND, Claggett Wilson, among many others. I utilize my skills and interests for editorial and music cover illustration, as I see a lack in interesting types of work in this field, as there seems to be an oversaturation of vector images and a startling interest in AI generated work. My methodology should make me a new and compelling artist in this day and age.

The Logo

The logo design of the snake in barbed wire represents the ability to thrive in adversity and transform (or shed skin) while at the core remaining the same.
